This furniture design project will be integrated into the housing prototypes built in the “INFONAVIT Housing Research and Experimentation Laboratory” and developed within the land reserve called “San Miguel del Arco,” in the municipality of Apan, Hidalgo.
In this laboratory, empirical knowledge will be monitored and tested, allowing the institute to develop equity in the homes it finances with the potential to be replicable at the national level.
The architectural proposals arose from the project “Del Territorio al Habitante” (“From the Territory to the Dweller”), organized by the Research Center for Sustainable Development, INFONAVIT. The objective was to bring national and international architecture firms together in order to generate progressive housing proposals for the institution’s beneficiary workers. Consideration had be given to geographic location as well as the environmental conditions in which the housing construction was planned.
The furniture included in the proposal had to comply with certain specifications–like dimensions, durability, and price–in order to be affordable to the workers. A collection of furniture for experimental housing prototypes was developed with the aim of solving the basic needs for the home.
